10 Reasons why Alexa is the best Christmas Present

Are you considering purchasing an Amazon Echo for Christmas or giving an Amazon Dot as a Christmas present? Here are my top 10 reasons why I think Alexa is the best Christmas Present!

Warning: if you have an Amazon Echo or Dot, you may want to listen to these with your headphones on as these videos may activate Alexa at your house.

#1 Alexa, Turn on the Christmas Tree

This one is enabled by using an Echo enable plug under the tree with the lights plugged into the plug.

#2 Alexa, Turn off the Master Bedroom

This one is also enabled by using an Echo enabled plug behind the nightstand. This is one of my favorites as I don’t like crawling out from under the warm coves to turn off the light. We also have a schedule where we have Alexa set to turn on the bedroom light at sundown. Yes, she is smart enough to know sunset in your town.

#3 Alexa, Turn on the Fragile (fra-gee-lay) Lamp

Once again, this is using the echo enabled plug connected to Alexa. The app lets you name each socket in the plug.

#4 Alexa Turn on the FireTV

This one is accomplished by using a Fire TV stick connected to Alexa. I love being able to turn on the TV, Tuner, and Fire TV stick all with one command.

#5 Alexa find Jason Mamoa movies

This one is also controlled by using an Amazon Fire Stick for the TV, which is echo-enabled. I love being able to easily find movies, genres, actors, etc.

#6 Alexa turn on the Train

Again, using the alexa-enabled plug under the tree. Choo-choo!

#7 Alexa play White Christmas

This one is accomplished by connecting your Alexa account to your Pandora account or Amazon Music.

#8 Alexa find Chuck Norris

This one is just straight up Alex humor.

#9 Alexa add granola bars to the Costco shopping list

This is accomplished with the Alexa app on your phone. Alexa add shopping items and grocery to whatever list you create. We have one for grocery store, Home Depot, Costco, etc. This one has been a life saver!

#10 Alexa BEDTIME!

This is the best command of all time. This is actually a function that we defined on Alexa. It turns off the :

• porch light,
• turns off the tree
• and the train,
• turns off the bedroom lights,
• turns off the TV,
• turns on the humidifier in the bedroom,
• adjusts the thermostat for night time,
• and turns on Pandora “Nature Sounds Radio” in the bedroom with a timer set for one hour.

Voila! Ready for bedtime with just one command!
